When a new baby is born, the entire family rejoices because we have brought in a new life into this world. When an addition is made to the world’s population we are going to need extra resources to supply to the needs of this new member. How are we going to handle it? Population and resources of the world are traveling in the exactly opposite directions of the graph. The population is constantly increasing but the resources are decreasing at an exponential rate because we are depleting the resources without replenishing them; we are facing the consequences of the non-environmental friendly mistakes of the generations those have gone before us.
We have given great importance to technological growth and development at the cost of our environment. We have polluted the planet so much creating an atmospheric imbalance worldwide. If we do not make any positive efforts to change the situation we may have to start looking for a different planet to move into.
It is our responsibility to start teaching our children how to be responsible citizens of this world and how to preserve the natural resources and to positively do something to increase the resources. They may not be in a position to listen to us if we ourselves do not practice what we plan to teach them. We cannot tell them not to cut trees if we don’t stop felling trees. We cannot tell them to use recycled products if we ourselves do not care to follow it. It has to start from day one; it does not matter how we have been in the past, but it is important not to delay any further to start. The birth of a new baby in the family gives us a great reason to start with our efforts to become more environmental friendly citizens. We can preserve this birth announcement card for the baby to see when he or she grows up. This will motivate them and inspire them further to be responsible individuals. You can easily inculcate these values in your children, but only by being examples. All along we have been examples, but as examples for how irresponsible one should not be in terms of preserving one’s environment and we certainly don’t want our children to follow suit!
